Embracing Vulnerability

Abajo en español - below in Spanish

Hello dear friends, for this second edition I will share with you the idea behind the illustration above called “Repressed Feelings” which I did back in 2020 during the pandemic. While exposing our vulnerability is no easy deal for anyone of any gender, I realized how this was becoming even more evident in some men in my surrounding. I know this is no big news, we all know that socially men are often less encouraged to show their feelings and emotions. But at that time, going through so much uncertainty and looking at this from a broader societal perspective, it stroke me how repressing emotions can be so toxic and well, it can also be the root of many tragedies, including useless wars and violence against women and LGBTQ+ people.

Narrowing down to my own circle (a privileged one), it felt like it was men who more often felt the need to pretend to be fine all the time, acting as if everything was under control, no need for help. Undeniably, that is a very lonely place to be in. It was then when I realized I wanted to find ways to deepen my relationship with the men in my life, and with that, hopefully be part of a stronger supportive system.

To the men in my life

I feel you, I see you.

I hope I can be a safe space, one where you can show your many sides: the strong and the vulnerable, the happy and the sad, the serene and the nervous.

I see the beauty in you, and it’s not toughness.

I see your resilience, which cannot flourish without fragility.

I see the strong will in you, and that does not imply a hardened heart

nor a made-of-steel ego.

With open-heartedness, I’m here to listen. I take you as you are,

a human with deep emotions.

I feel you, I see you, I hope I can be a shoulder to lean on.

Embracing Vulnerability

Hola querid@s amig@s y familia.
